Dutch Oven Sundays

My brother gave me a blue ceramic lined dutch oven one year for my birthday.

It's one of the best kitchen items I have, and I love it so much. During the pandemic, everyone was making sourdough bread because food was scarce. I wasn't able to keep a starter alive, but found a great no-knead recipe for bread that used a dutch oven.

I tried a few different recipes before finally perfecting it, and now one of my favorite things to do on a Sunday is to bake a nice loaf of bread in the dutch oven, and pair it with a soup to make in the same dutch oven when the bread is done.

What makes it easy is that if your soup recipe calls for roasting any veggies, you can do that in the oven while the bread is cooking or while the oven is preheating for 30 min. You can also prep your soup ingredients while the bread is baking, and then simmer and stir while the bread is cooling down.

On chilly, grey Rochester days, this is one of my favorite things in the world to do. It's especially lovely when at the end, you can sit around a table and share some good soup and fresh bread with your family and feel warm and cozy together.
