Fortune Apple Pie

 Ingredients:

  • Pie crust
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 Tbsp. flour
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 4 granny smith (or other) apples (peeled, cored and sliced)
  • caramel candy cubes
  • cinnamon

Directions:
  • Preheat over to 425 F
  • Line bottom of pie crust with thinly sliced caramel squares
  • Melt butter in a sauce pan
  • Stir in flour to form paste
  • Add:
    • sugar
    • water
  • Bring to boil
  • Reduce temperature and simmer 5 minutes
  • Combine:
    • apples
    • dash of cinnamon
    • some brown sugar in a large bowl and coat evenly
  • Fill pie crust with apples
  • Cover with pie crust lattice/cover
  • Gently pour the sugar and butter liquid over the crust
Bake:
  • 15 minutes at 425 F
  • Reduce temperature to 350 F and bake 35-45 minutes more
